Formados em 2002 em França, chegam agora até nós os estranhos Akphaezya, com o seu primeiro álbum “Anthology II”. Não, não há ainda nenhum ”Anthology I”. Segundo consta, o tempo em Akphaezya não funciona da mesma maneira que no nosso mundo. Este trabalho é, aliás, uma parte de cinco, que não serão editados por ordem.

Donos de um som muito singular, estes franceses conseguem surpreender a cada faixa que passa, pois nunca sabemos que estilos vão eles abordar no tema seguinte. Com a fabulosa Nehl Aëlin nas vozes e nos teclados, os Akphaezya estendem a sua sombra pelos mais variados géneros musicais, sejam eles o Death Metal ou o Jazz. O segundo tema, “Chrysalis”, é um óptimo exemplo da polivalência desta grande banda. Tão depressa se tem uns teclados calminhos, acompanhados por uma voz doce, como no momento a seguir encontrarão blastbeats e umas harsh vocals à lá Angela Gossow.

Na verdade, a grande surpresa desta banda é mesmo Nehl Aëlin. Apesar da banda se conseguir destacar pela qualidade musical de cada um dos membros, é na vocalista que está o seu ponto mais forte, pois Nehl tem uma voz capaz de encher de vergonha algumas veteranas. Além de ter um timbre fantástico, esta rapariga é capaz de cantar qualquer tipo de música e continuar a roubar todas as atenções. Na “Khamsin”, por exemplo, Nehl supera-se. Mais de metade do tema é puro avant-garde, com todo o tipo de vozes loucas mas, quando se esperava um final insano, o ambiente muda e somos transportados para o mundo do jazz na doce e serena voz desta fantástica vocalista.

Em suma, preparem-se para um dos álbuns mais estranhos que já ouviram, mas preparem-se também para uma das melhores estreias do ano. Estes Akphaezya não enganam. Serão, de certeza, muito grandes. Bravo.

Formed in 2002 in France, here come the weird Akphaezya, with their first album “Anthology II”. No, there’s not an “Antology I” yet. It seems time in Akphaezya doesn’t work the same way as in our world. In fact, this work is one of five that won’t be released in order.

Owners of a very unique sound, these French are capable of astonishing in every song, for we never know what genre they will play in the next theme. With the fabulous Nehl Aëlin behind the microphone and on the keyboards, Akphaezya throw their shadow towards the most varied musical styles, whether Death Metal or Jazz. The second song, “Chrysalis”, is a perfect example of the polyvalence of this great band. In a moment we from some calm piano moments and a sweet voice to blastbeats and harsh vocals à lá Angela Gossow.

The truth is the biggest surprise in the band is Nehl Aëlin. Regardless of the obvious quality of each musician, it’s the singer who flies higher, so to speak. She not only has a fantastic timbre, but she’s also capable of singing any kind of music and still steal the show. In “Khamsin”, for example, Nehl surpasses herself. More than a half of the song is pure avant-garde with all kinds of insane voices, but when we’re expecting a crazy ending, the environment changes and we’re taken to the jazz world on the sweet and serene voice of this astonishing singer.

Summing it up, get ready for one of the weirdest albums you’ve ever heard, but also get ready for one of the most brilliant debuts of the year. These Akphaezya don’t deceive: they will be huge. Bravo.
